A quick story about why and how I got into  fitness and why I am now sharing my 20+ years of experience-

I started in fitness after gaining 60+ lbs in my first pregnancy, losing it prior to going back to work, and then gaining 40 lbs of it back again after I stopped working outside our townhouse in  NOVA and moving to RDU (Wake Forest, NC).

I had a wonderful 2 yr old (Jake) and decided that I needed to find out the truth for him regarding God and what I believed.  I was raised by believing parents but had not figured out my beliefs as an adult.

I was a “seeker” and took Jake to every church I could find, looking for the answer.  I truly wanted to be the best mom ever and know that when I told him what I believed it would be honest and true!

Being a diligent new mom, I wanted the best of everything for him.  So I offered to teach Sunday School at the church we were attending. When I got turned down because I wasn’t a “member” of the church, I did what I needed to do to become a “member”.  I walked down the aisle at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church and asked to become a member.  The pastors Chris Gilliam and Dr. Jim Codgill were at the altar and prayed with me to accept Christ as my savior.  I will always attribute my finding Christ to my son Jake, because, if it wasn’t for him, I don’t know if I would have gone looking:)  I believe Christ has a plan for all of us, and I believe people in your life can affect the speed and paths of that plan.

When I finally found the answer … Jesus… I was introduced to a program called First Place which is based off my life-scripture, Matthew 6:33, “But seek first his kingdom and his  righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”.  First Place was a Christ-centered weight loss program built on scripture memorization, bible study, food journaling with food exchanges, weekly meetings for accountability, encouragement and education and EXERCISE.  Truly a well rounded program.

First Place also used basically the same physiological weight-loss program I had just finished and gained weight with through Kaiser Permanente.  The only difference between the two programs  was the Bible study/Scripture memorization.  So I guess what I needed more than anything was a relationship with Christ.

Through First Place I was drawn to exercise and during a regular aerobics class I started weeping…for no reason … I spoke with the instructor about the emotion I was feeling and told her I was feeling led to become an instructor.  This was not something I had ever felt before.  She, being the wife of a Seminary student, assured me that I could do it and that she would help in any way that she could.  Within 3 months I had ace’d the test and was certified to teach “Aerobics”.  All of this occurred still while I was at least 30 lbs overweight and very conscious of it and still very insecure about getting up in front of people and feeling confident about being a fitness ‘leader’.  I felt sort of like Moses, who was known for his stutter, being asked by God to speak to and lead his people😉

But with God’s help I passed the certifications and slowly but surely over the past 20+ years have become not only a Group Fitness Leader, but a Personal Trainer, Pilates Instructor and Coach.  And every day I feel blessed to be in an industry that strives to help other’s help themselves.

So here we are 20+ years later and I have a ton of fitness and spiritual experience that I’d like to share with the public, because being in the fitness industry has truly been a gift to me and I believe God would want me to share it with as many people as possible.

So, through this blog I hope to encourage, inform, inspire and get real with any of you that already have a relationship with Christ and with any of you that don’t (yet).  I hope that the information I share will help others take better care of their health while keeping Christ first.

in His peace and joy😉
